Hulu (from the Hawaiian word for feather)

Kea (from the Hawaiian word for white)

UPDATE:

June 2002.
Decided that the Girls needed bigger cages.the ones they are in are sufficient but not overly comfortable...Started surfing the web and found "Freedom Cages" in Florida who would make us a custom cage...A couple of months and a couple of phone calls and a couple of dollars and this giant crate is dropped at our door. Frank at Freedom Cage was incredably patient with us as we self designed this monster.

Wash, Wash, Wash...Stainless is dirty stuff.

More washing

Rinsing and drying, just like shampoo, wash, rinse, repeat.

Our friend John, helped put on the top.

Sandra seems to think this is the best place for us...

Now it's time for a beer.

The Kids came home today!!!

It was a sad moment as Kea and Hulu left their first mom (Breeder Gay Whitney: best breeder around) and their surrogate mom (Sara Cockrell: best birdie feeder around) and were put into their carriers for the long ride home. Both did well in the car for about a half hour, then the shredding of the cages began...Upon arrival home Hulu was a bit nervous and just sat on top of the cage, mostly just soaking it all in. Kea did the smart thing...went and stuck her beak in the food bowl and chowed down as if nobody had fed her in a week...(we know better)

Saturday, November 4th. Another visit with the kids, Auntie Chaos and (introducing) Uncle Trouble...Looks like the kids WILL be home for Thanksgiving. The rush is on now to get the house ready for them.

Introducing Uncle Trouble. He is Sara's pet African Gray. Not generally known for being very kind to strangers, Trouble has been very standoffish during our previous visits. Being the brave (stupid) soul that I am, I was actually able to pet him for a minute this trip.

Sunday, October 29th. Another run to Rocky Mount to see the kids. Everybody standing on their own (a bit shaky yet...) generally able to step up on to our hands on command...with a little prodding. Both at about their adult size, and all feathers in. Hulu (the Gray) learning how to use her beak on fingers...a bit of training will fix that...honest! Sill looks like Thanksgiving weekend will be the move home date...will plan on bringing them home the Friday after turkey day...

In the Hawaiian tradition the children are watched over by an "Auntie" when mom and dad are not around...Kea and Hulu's auntie:

Auntie Chaos
